From rock to horizon: the story of Casa Tobi

October 20, 2025

Inspired by Sou Fujimoto’s vision of architecture as an evolving, adaptive space, Casa Tobi reinterprets the simple architecture principles to create a fluid, sensory experience.

Perched on the steep coast of Oaxaca, the house embraces its dramatic topography, descending westward toward panoramic sunsets and the vast Pacific Ocean.

The journey begins on the upper terrace, where a reflecting pool mirrors the surrounding jungle and warm sunset hues, offering a moment of stillness before leading visitors down a narrow walkway.

This compressed path opens suddenly into a double-height social area, where large apertures frame the horizon, merging indoor and outdoor life.

Earth-toned materials, reminiscent of crab shells, and water elements referencing the petrified waterfalls Hierve el Agua create a strong connection to the region’s textures and colors.

With its stepped design and thoughtful integration into the landscape, Casa Tobi is a tribute to conscious tourism – where architecture and nature coexist in harmony.
