Mykola Kabluka – a mathematician who accidentally became an architect of light

November 26, 2025

Mykola Kabluca is a renowned lighting designer, artist, and art director, as well as the founder of Expolight, a pioneer in architectural lighting in Ukraine for over two decades. A member of the IALD and IES, he has been instrumental in transforming lighting design from an overlooked detail into a vital element of architecture in his country.

With an academic background in mathematics and a master’s degree in Architectural Lighting Design from Hochschule Wismar (Germany), Mykola blends creativity with precision engineering. He views light not merely as illumination, but as a socio-cultural, emotional, and symbolic medium that shapes human experiences and deepens the bond between people and spaces.

Under his leadership, Expolight has delivered over 2,000 large-scale, complex projects worldwide, earning a reputation as a European leader in architectural, landscape, interior lighting, and media art installations, where art, technology, and storytelling converge seamlessly.
