Lighting up change: Deira Clocktower transforms into living digital sculpture for climate action

October 10, 2025

As part of COP28 in Dubai, the Deira Clocktower was transformed into an interactive digital art installation blending technology, education, and environmental activism.

Developed with Dubai Municipality and Nuevo Design Studio under the Art for Change initiative, the project created a living digital seascape of coral reefs and marine life that responded to public engagement.

Using Big Data, the installation tracked pledges for sustainability. Initially gray and lifeless, the digital reefs flourished with vibrant colors and animated sea creatures.

Through a custom web app, participants worldwide could learn about marine conservation, make pledges, and see them instantly visualized as symbolic sea creatures on the clock tower.

A digital twin of the installation, created as an NFT, was displayed at Expo City Dubai, mirroring the real sculpture in real time. The project stands as a striking symbol of how art and technology can unite communities for global environmental action.
