Celebrated as the cradle of Chinese civilization, the Yellow River National Museum in Zhengzhou pays tribute to China’s “Mother River” by blending architecture with landscape.

Set within the Yellow River National Cultural Park, the museum’s flowing, polygonal form mirrors the river’s meandering course, symbolizing a union between civilization and nature.

A green roof leads to a 40-meter observation deck, offering panoramic views of the river and city.

Rooftop paths lined with native vegetation, picnic areas, and open-air exhibits echo the surrounding terrain.

At its core, a light-filled atrium – highlighted by a cascading water curtain – anchors the building.

The natural stone façade, made of prefabricated modules, evokes the river’s rhythm, while tall windows frame sweeping views and reference cave dwellings.

A dramatic brass-clad entrance on the south side resembles a carved rock face, inviting visitors into a spatial journey shaped by water, erosion, and memory.
