Weaving light into Uspenska Square

November 10, 2025

The lighting design for Uspenska Square transforms its architecture, resembling intertwined threads, into a living, interactive experience.

Using media paving, light traces the “threads of people’s movement”, guiding visitors through the square and toward the river with caustic-inspired effects.

Interactive light lines respond to motion sensors, symbolizing the dynamic connection between people and their city.

As pedestrians move, light subtly follows their steps, creating a sense of presence and engagement.

Brightness, color, and dynamics are carefully calibrated to ensure comfort, while seasonal and event-based color schemes bring the square into harmony with the city’s cultural calendar.

The lighting extends to the cultural centre façade, where the design philosophy seamlessly continues, reinforcing the square’s atmosphere.

On the playground, gobo projectors cast floating constellations across the ground, inviting children to play among the stars.

Here, light is more than illumination – it is movement, interaction, and cultural connection woven directly into the urban fabric.
